As the Commercial Attaché at the Kenya Embassy in Brazil, which also covers Argentina, I am entrusted with the responsibility of promoting trade, investment, and diplomatic linkages between Kenya and the wider Latin American region. In this role, I actively engage with stakeholders across Brazil and Argentina to advance Kenya’s economic diplomacy, strengthen commercial ties, and identify opportunities for South-South cooperation. The ACE Córdoba program presents a timely and strategic opportunity to deepen my expertise by learning directly from Argentina’s experience in regional integration, economic governance, and innovative trade practices. Argentina’s leadership within MERCOSUR, coupled with its history of navigating complex regional trade dynamics, offers valuable lessons for Africa as we operationalize the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). I am motivated to join the program to gain comparative insights into how regional blocs can address non-tariff barriers, harmonize trade policies, and create enabling environments for inclusive growth. These lessons are directly applicable to my current responsibilities, where I work on promoting Kenyan exports, developing trade intelligence, and supporting policy dialogues that bridge Africa and Latin America. Beyond trade policy, the program’s emphasis on leadership and applied learning resonates with my career trajectory. By participating in ACE Córdoba, I seek to strengthen my capacity to design practical policy interventions, enhance my negotiation and diplomacy skills, and broaden my cultural competence through immersion in a Spanish-speaking environment. This exposure will be invaluable in enabling me to more effectively engage with Argentine institutions and businesses, while also deepening Kenya’s footprint in the region. Ultimately, my participation in ACE Córdoba will not only benefit my professional growth but also contribute to a wider multiplier effect. I intend to leverage the knowledge, skills, and networks acquired to draft actionable policy briefs, develop trade strategies, and spearhead initiatives that support Kenya’s development agenda, reinforce Africa’s integration goals, and foster stronger South-South partnerships between Africa and Latin America.
