Marcelo Collahuazo, Humphrey Fellow, Michigan State University. I am a Humphrey Fellow in the field of Economic Development and work for the Center for Community and Economic Development, where I am involved in two projects of data collection regarding recycling behaviors and economic resiliency for indigenous communities in the state of Michigan; moreover, I am implementing strategies to build partnerships with other stakeholders interested in funding specialized surveys for communities to create more accurate programs that meet their needs. During this fellowship I have leveraged my leadership skills, mentored college students, and expanded my network in Michigan and abroad. In Ecuador I worked as a Data Analyst of economic and socio demographic information in the public sector and I have experience with logistics and transportation in the private sector. I hold a degree in Economics and completed a Specialization in Management for Development.
When I return to my country, I will use my background to focus on two main goals: 1) to promote the digitalization of businesses within fields that might be traditional but still rely on outdated practices (e.g. agriculture) and 2) to leverage data produced daily in businesses of medium or small scale to enhance productivity. For these endeavors I plan to expand my network with stakeholders interested in building partnerships and investment opportunities in Ecuador based on their expertise in Michigan.
