Sharma Mathurin, Deputy Director, National Competitiveness & Productivity Council. This current role affords me the opportunity to champion and co-ordinate key policies, activities and projects which create an enabling environment that supports an innovative, productive and competitive economy. This Council has in the past and is responsible for leading the implementation of important reports which has assisted in boosting Saint Lucia’s levels of productivity and competitiveness. Some of the major projects implemented in the past include establishment of the first ever Commercial Court, roll out of a Productivity Assessment Tool, establishment of a Collateral Registry, annual observance of Productivity Awareness Week throughout Saint Lucia, Insolvency Legislation. Additionally, the Council has engaged in key research projects on Entrepreneurship, Apprenticeship Programs, Flexible Work Arrangements etc. This Council has also been heavily involved in the roll out of a grant program for small and micro enterprises in Saint Lucia which had the intended objectives of granting funds aimed at taking ip projects within their respective businesses which improve efficiency, productivity and competitiveness.
